What is the role of the teacher?

The design of discovery learning environments requires other design activities of the designer and the role of the teacher, namely supporting instead of guiding the learning process of the learner. The learner should explore the learning environment instead of an expository role of the teacher.

In a metaphorical sense the teacher could be compared with a person who helps a child in a recreation-ground. Both for a recreation-ground and a discovery environment the supporter has to take into account sufficient 'room' to be explored by the children respectively learners.
